BECKER’S NEVUS
Becker’s Nevus, also known as Becker Melanosis, is a skin condition that typically affects men and manifests during or after the onset of puberty. Usually beginning as a light to dark brown patch on one side of the body (typically the back, shoulder, or chest), Becker’s Nevus can look similar to a birthmark. However, the patch will ultimately develop coarse, dark hair over time, and the area often becomes larger. Becker’s Nevus conditions may be congenital, or they may occur due to an elevated level of hormones once puberty sets in. While Becker’s Nevus often only causes some itchiness, it can be the source of self-consciousness about one’s appearance and have a negative effect on self-esteem.
